Hedging
Forsythia Intermedia. 'Goldzauber'
Ref: FOfor02
This tough and thick shrub produces masses of bright yellow flowers in the early spring. The flowers appear late April to early May and, on closer inspection, reveal that they are orange in the throat. This is a hardy shrub, which can either be trimmed as a formal hedge or left slightly informal.
It will tolerate exposed situations, and semi-shade, growing to around 2m in height. It grows by about 45cm each year so needs a trim to keep it looking tidy. Just cut back branches that have flowered soon after flowering and again in August and remove some of the old branches right down to the ground to encourage new growth and a compact shape.

Hebe
Ref: FOheb01
Hebe is native to New Zealand, where it is often used as informal hedging. The display of flowers appear in summer and go right through to early winter, and can help attract butterflies and bees to the garden.
Hebe is evergreen, and as a low growing bush makes a great choice for coastal areas, with a typical growing height of 1-3m. They are happy in ordinary soil and will succeed in both acid and alkaline conditions.
All varieties enjoy trimming annually, either in spring or immediately after flowering.
Our Hebe plants are delivered in a large 27cm pot, so the plant is well established.

Slow-growing, it will only reach 1.8m (6ft) after ten years if left unpruned.
